FCA to Enhance Coronavirus Protections for Manufacturing/Warehouse Workers

UAW, GM, Ford and FCA to Enhance COVID-19/ Coronavirus Protections for Manufacturing and Warehouse Workers

March 15, 2020 , Detroit - The United Auto Workers (UAW), General Motors Co., Ford Motor Company and Fiat Chrysler Automobiles (FCA) announced today they are forming a COVID-19/Coronavirus Task Force to implement enhanced protections for manufacturing and warehouse employees at all three companies.

UAW President Rory Gamble, GM Chairman and CEO Mary Barra, Ford Executive Chairman Bill Ford and President and CEO Jim Hackett, and FCA CEO Michael Manley will lead the task force.

They will be supported by:
  • Terry Dittes, vice president, UAW-GM Department
  • Gerald Kariem, vice president, UAW-Ford Department
  • Cindy Estrada, vice president, UAW-FCA Department
  • The medical staffs, and the manufacturing and labor leadership teams at all three companies
“Workplace health and safety is a priority for us every day, all three companies have been taking steps to keep the COVID-19/coronavirus out of their facilities and during this national emergency, we will do even more working together,” said Gamble, who convened the leaders of all three companies. “We are focused on doing the right thing for our people, their families, our communities and the country. All options related to protecting against exposure to the virus are on the table.”

In a joint statement, the leaders of GM, Ford and FCA said, “This is a fluid and unprecedented situation, and the task force will move quickly to build on the wide-ranging preventive measures we have put in place. We are all coming together to help keep our workforces safe and healthy.”

All three companies and the UAW are working to coordinate action to prevent the spread of the COVID-19/coronavirus, including enhanced visitor screening, increased cleaning and sanitizing of common areas and touch points, and implementing safety protocols for people with potential exposure, as well as those who exhibit flu-like symptoms.
The joint task force’s areas of focus will include vehicle production plans, additional social distancing, break and cleaning schedules, health and safety education, health screening, food service and any other areas that have the potential to improve protections for employees. As the joint task force identifies enhancements, each company, together with the UAW, will provide regular updates to the workers in their facilities.

Dejablu is my girl! She's a 2010 with a 3.5 ltr V6. I just thought I was buying a car, little did I know it was a whole new lifestyle. I joined a Modern Mopar club and learned a new word..."mod"...it all went crazy from there. Little things at first and then bigger things as I learned about the LX platform. Her biggest mods are the DiabloSport Predator Tune, The Mopar cold air intake, the Eibach Pro Plus kit and the Status Retro rims which are staggered 22s with 10 1/2 in on the rear. I started showing early on in the modding process and was shocked to start winning trophies! She has a Lucky shamrock and dragonfly theme which is tastefully carried out in all aspects. Including a "tramp stamp" on the spoiler and custom colored and engraved Billet Tech in the hood and interior. I even have a tattoo to match! I changed as a person because of Dejablu. I am happier and more outgoing and have so much confidence now because of the friends I've made in the car community because of my Challenger.

FCA applies to trademark 'Hornet' and 'Dodge Hornet' names

Dodge could be looking to sting the car market like a hornet with the new trademark filing that might suggest a new product of some sort.Filed with the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) at the beginning of the month and discovered by MotorTrend, the ‘Hornet’ and ‘Dodge Hornet’ are said to be in the process of being secured in Canada and Mexico as well.

So, the big question is, what could a Hornet or a Dodge Hornet be? The brand’s lineup is outdated and only includes the Challenger, Charger, Durango, Journey and Grand Caravan, with the latter to be pulled out soon, and the second-to-last believed to follow it. As such, Dodge will be left with only the 9-year old Durango to cater to the needs of high-riding vehicle buyers, so they might be planning a compact crossover.

Of course, there’s no indication pointing in any direction at the time of writing, but we could also assume that with the FCA-PSA merger, some Euro companies might be heading to North America, and they could be rebadged as Dodges. It would make sense for the North American automaker to secure a moniker that’s already familiar to potential customers.

The AMC (American Motors Corporation) Hornet was made between 1969 and 1977, and was a compact car offered in 2-, 3-, 4- and 5-door body styles, with front-engine and rear-wheel drive. Last time the Hornet nameplate was used on a vehicle was in 2006, when they presented the sub-compact concept, which was supposed to preview a model for the European market, but its fate was sealed by the 2009 financial crisis.

Now, with the demand for crossovers and SUVs skyrocketing, it would make sense for FCA to plan more. We will just have to wait and see if they approve it for production and if it will indeed be another high-rider.

The Coronavirus Puts The Brakes On WAM Car Show

From WAMs facebook page.
"**WAM2020 Update**
It is with a heavy heart that we announce that the City of Fort Worth has just declared a state of emergency, and has instituted a ban on all gatherings of more than 500 people due to COVID-19. As you know, Texas Motor Speedway is located in Fort Worth, Texas, so we have no other choice but to postpone WAM2020.
We fought hard the past few days to implement every possible precaution to keep the show up and running for all of our excited Mopar owners, but unfortunately, the State of Texas made the decision to ban large events, and left us no option. We wholly support our local and state governments who have taken these measures ultimately to protect our event attendees, vendors and spectators. We will comply with this new mandate as ordered.
We would like to extend a thank you to everyone for your support of WAM2020. We would also like to thank TMS for their commitment to our event, and willingness to help us work through these last couple of days. TMS has been incredible with making information available to us real time & fielding daily (hourly!) calls and emails to keep us informed of latest developments and offered options and guidance at each step.
In anticipation of Fort Worth following its surrounding counties’ declaration on large events, we have already been able to secure a tentative date to reschedule WAM2020! We are in the process of finalizing Saturday, August 8, 2020, as our new show date.
All purchased registrations, event features, and spectator tickets will be transferrable to the new show date. You will receive an email with the updated registration information. If you are unable to attend on August 8, 2020, you will have the option to transfer your purchased tickets to another individual. Please email us at info@wamshow.com with change requests, or to discuss other options.
Additionally, we have already spoken with both host hotels, and they will be cancelling our reserved block on Monday. That means that anyone who booked under the reserved block will automatically have their room cancelled, with NO FEE assessed. Once the details are finalized with the host hotels, we will post a new link for you to reserve your stay for the new dates.
**If you booked at a hotel other than the Marriott Champion Circle, or the Marriott Solana, PLEASE CONTACT YOUR HOTEL IMMEDIATELY TO CANCEL. We did not have an agreement with other hotels that would allow us to handle the cancellation for you.**
We appreciate your patience and kind support while the new arrangements and details are being confirmed. As always, once information is available, we will post immediately for everyone to have the most current and up to date information regarding WAM2020. "

Coronavirus disease (COVID-19) advice for the public

Stay aware of the latest information on the COVID-19 outbreak, available on the WHO website and through your national and local public health authority. COVID-19 is still affecting mostly people in China with some outbreaks in other countries. Most people who become infected experience mild illness and recover, but it can be more severe for others. Take care of your health and protect others by doing the following:

Wash your hands frequently

Regularly and thoroughly clean your hands with an alcohol-based hand
rub or wash them
with soap and water.

Why? Washing your hands with soap and water or using alcohol-based
 hand rub kills
viruses that may be on your hands.

Maintain social distancing

Maintain at least 1 metre (3 feet) distance between yourself and
anyone who is coughing or sneezing.

Why? When someone coughs or sneezes they spray small liquid
droplets from their nose or mouth which may contain virus. If you
are too close, you can breathe in the droplets, including the
COVID-19 virus if the person coughing has the disease.

Avoid touching eyes, nose and mouth

Why? Hands touch many surfaces and can pick up viruses. Once
contaminated, hands can transfer the virus to your eyes, nose or
mouth. From there, the virus can enter your body and can make
you sick.

Practice respiratory hygiene

Make sure you, and the people around you, follow good respiratory
hygiene. This means covering your mouth and nose with your bent
elbow or tissue when you cough or sneeze. Then dispose of the used
 tissue immediately.

Why? Droplets spread virus. By following good respiratory hygiene
you protect the people around you from viruses such as cold, flu and
 COVID-19.

If you have fever, cough and difficulty breathing, seek

medical care early

Stay home if you feel unwell. If you have a fever, cough and difficulty
breathing, seek medical attention and call in advance. Follow the
directions of your local health authority.

Why? National and local authorities will have the most up to date
information on the situation in your area. Calling in advance will
allow your health care provider to quickly direct you to the right
health facility. This will also protect you and help prevent spread
of viruses and other infections.

First Case of Coranavirus at FCA

STATEMENT OF UAW VICE PRESIDENT CINDY ESTRADA ON CORONAVIRUS IDENTIFIED AT KOKOMO FCA FACILITY

“Our thoughts and support are with our UAW member and their family, friends and community in Kokomo, Indiana. The UAW has been actively monitoring and reacting to issues related to the spread of COVID-19. We are working with FCA on this first discovery of the virus at one of their facilities as well as on the precautions and measures necessary to protect our UAW FCA members and everyone who works in our facilities.

Earlier this week, FCA issued communications to all employees on the company process for dealing with this pandemic. The UAW FCA department will continue communications with FCA on measures that may need to be taken as this very serious situation changes daily and hourly.

As a reminder to help do our part in this pandemic, we encourage all UAW members and others to wash hands frequently, use hand sanitizer frequently, avoid touching the face and avoid contact with others within 2 to 3 feet, if possible. Anyone experiencing symptoms of a high fever, dry cough or illness, should take precaution and stay home.
We are in this in together in Solidarity.”
